Bullock harbour planning latest

As the rain lashes down on the country and the waves are once again over-topping the Bullock rocks (visibility too poor to get photos or videos), we learn that An Bord Pleanala has upheld the decision of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to refuse planning permission for the latest (2022) Bullock Harbour planning application by Bartra Property (Dublin) Ltd. Bulloch Harbour Preservation Association is delighted to get good news on this front.
As we know from our correspondents and supporters that the multiple planning applications have been confusing, here is a summary of the planning history. Three planning applications have to date been submitted by Bartra to the planing authority DLR CoCo for the former Western Marine site at Bullock Harbour.
The first unsuccessful application was for what was popularly known in the press as at the “Costa del Sol” development and this was not pursued by Bartra. The second application was refused by DLR CoCo, appealed by Bartra to An Bord Pleanala in 2018 and awarded planning permission by ABP in 2019. This was when Bulloch Harbour Preservation Association launched a judicial review to challenge the ABP decision. The judicial review was cut short when ABP decided not to contest our case. Covid delays slowed everything down and eventually a third application was lodged by Bartra in January 2022. This third application was refused again by DLR CoCo and again appealed by Bartra to ABP in March 2022 – with this new, welcome decision coming a full year and a half later.
We look forward to discussing future, sensible plans for Bullock Harbour with stakeholders and interested parties across the board. More news as and when. You can read the full inspector’s report here.
